INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES TOUR.
(The ideal way to learn our way of living!)
(02 / 03 or 04 Days, any day).
A unique tour in which one can be in direct contact with the indigenous communities. The encounter with the people of the area allows to share their customs and to learn from their way of living.
You get the opportunity to share the daily activities of the Indians during their labor days, such as: cook with them, feed the cows, observe and participate in some agricultural task etc. and have time to do some activities as hike around Cotacachi lagoon.
The rural lodges are located within the indigenous communities where you may enjoy the tranquility of the country, the hospitality of your host family and the cultural authenticity of the region. The housing in the lodges provides a unique opportunity to share everyday life with an indigenous family and experience mutual respect.
The communities visited in this tour dwell in the foothills of the Cotacachi volcano. The indigenous beliefs are rich with ancestral stories and you will have the opportunity of getting immersed in the sacred rituals carried on by the communities with their own way of adoring and worshiping the Sun God and the Mother Earth. These one of a kind practices allow one to deepen the experience of every event both from the traditional and cultural points of view of the indigenous Quichua community.
The tour begins at 8:30 a.m. with the first destination being the community of La Calera where we will observe the making of hammocks viewing the different processes that lead up to the final product that is sold in the market.
Afterwards, we will hike to the sacred site called Tung-Dung where rituals baths are realized during the fiestas of Inti-Raimi, the 22nd of June.
This bath commences at midnight together with a shaman, a tradition that has been conserved throughout generations. (Bring swimming clothes, optional)
Once finished with the visit in La Calera, we will move to other communities including Morochos and Chilcapamba where we can observe the process of making cabuya a material like hem into rope, the creation of wool, the weaving of tapestries and the making of bags. Subsequently, we will visit a shaman in order to become acquainted with the modes of curing that are done in the rural sector among the indigenous.
