DAY 3, Tuesday

Bachas Beach – North Seymour

Marine Iguana picture by bmw

We visit in the morning Bachas Beach. This is a large stretch white sand beach caressed by the light blue waters of the Pacific.

In land there are several lagoons where we can find a colony of Flamingo. This will be our first stop. The flamingos have a particular pink color due to the kind of seaweed they eat all day long in the lakes.

We were lucky enough to see some of the flamingos flying.

We continue hiking all along the seaside. Observing iguanas and the beautiful landscape.

Bachas is the Spanish result of the converted word “barges” by the locals. Remnants of the U.S presence from WW II –a floating pier- is found here, because during the war this island was used as an American base.

The sun and warmth are strong in this island and in others as well, that is why you got to make sure to bring everyday your bottle of water. They are available on board and you can refill your bottle as many times as you wish.

Later on we had free time to snorkel and swim from the beach.

During the afternoon, we will go to North Seymour. After the dry landing sea lions welcome us to the island.

In the trail we can find swallow-tailed gulls, blue footed boobies and the endemic land iguanas.

What attired more our attention were the huge waves, a surfer’s paradise!

We also visited the largest colony of endemic land iguanas …

…and visited the largest colony of magnificent frigate birds found In Galapagos, this specie of bird has a purple color in its back.

Today we were back to the yacht at around 16:00; this is because we have one of the longest sailings tonight, up northwest to Fernandina and Isabela Islands…

We had some frigates joining us on board for a couple of hours.
